Use Brevo SMTP for your website contact form

Brevo (formerly Sendinblue) has an SMTP relay built for sending from your own domain. Here’s how to connect it, and the login detail that trips most people up.

Last updated October 26, 2026

1Add your sender or domain in Brevo

In Brevo, open Senders, domains & dedicated IPs and add the address you’ll send from, or better, authenticate your whole domain with the DNS records Brevo provides.

2Generate an SMTP key

Go to SMTP & API → SMTP and generate a new SMTP key. Copy it, along with the SMTP login shown on the same page. Use an SMTP key here, not an API key and not your Brevo account password.

3Enter the settings in FormSMTP

Sign up free, add a project and pick Brevo as the provider so the host and port fill in.

ProviderBrevo
Hostsmtp-relay.brevo.com
Port587 with SSL off (STARTTLS), or 465 with SSL on. 2525 also works.
UsernameThe SMTP login from the SMTP page (copy it exactly)
PasswordThe SMTP key from step 2
From emailThe sender or an address on the domain you added in step 1

Click Test connection, then add your form. See the HTML contact form guide, or compare every provider on the SMTP settings page.

Which username?

Depending on when your Brevo account was created, the SMTP login is either your account email or a generated address ending in @smtp-brevo.com. Don’t guess: copy the value shown under SMTP & API → SMTP.

Common errors

  • 535 Authentication failed: the username isn’t the SMTP login shown in Brevo, or the password is an API key instead of an SMTP key.
  • Messages accepted but never sent: the From address isn’t a sender or domain you’ve added in Brevo. Check Brevo’s transactional logs.
  • Connection timeouts: some networks block 587; try 465 or 2525.

FAQ

Is the SMTP key the same as my Brevo API key?

No. API keys are for Brevo’s HTTP API. SMTP needs an SMTP key, generated on the SMTP tab of SMTP & API.

Is Brevo good for newsletters too?

Yes. It’s built for bulk email, so it’s a better fit than a personal mailbox once your list grows. Keep your list opt-in; FormSMTP adds unsubscribe links to scheduled sends.

Why do my messages land in spam?

Usually the From address isn’t on a domain you’ve verified with the provider, or the domain has no SPF and DKIM records. Verify the domain, send from an address on it, and check the Deliverability panel in FormSMTP’s Settings.
